ABOUT RUET

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) is the second oldest prestigious public Engineering University in Bangladesh which offers quality education and research in the field of engineering and technology. The university was established in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College with three Engineering departments namely Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Civil Engineering. The institute started with a Bachelor’s degree program and a limited number of students (122) enrolled in three departments each year. Later it was converted to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi in 1986 to enhance technical education. The institute is upgraded to Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) in September 2003. Currently, the university comprises 18 departments including engineering and sciences that offer under-graduate and post-graduate degrees. About 3000 students are pursuing their higher study in this green campus including under-graduate and post-graduate with over 200 prominent faculty members of the diverse fields of expertise. At the graduate level, M.Sc. Engg., M. Engg., M. Phil, and Ph.D. programs and research are continuing in a qualitative manner under the faculties. RUET not only serves the expectation of the public but also contribute to human society as a whole.

Location

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) is situated in the northern part of Bangladesh. Rajshahi is one of the largest divisional headquarters of the country.  The campus is located about 250 km north-west of Dhaka city and in the urban area of Rajshahi adjoining with Dhaka-Rajshahi highway nearby of the University of Rajshahi. Dhaka to Rajshahi can be reached in about 5 hours by car, 6 hours by public bus, 6 hours by intercity train and half an hour by airlines. The university is about 10 minutes’ drive (4 km) from the railway station and bus terminal and 20 minutes’ drive (8 km) from the Shah Makhdum Airport Rajshahi. Auto rickshaws, CNG, and public buses are available 24/7 to reach the university from all the terminals.

Weather  

The distinguishable seasons in Bangladesh are summer and winter. In the summer season (May-October) temperature of Rajshahi is hot and typically 25-40 degree Celcius and sometimes humid. In the winter season (November-April) temperature is moderate typically 8-20 ºC.

Accommodation

Students, teachers, and staff are accommodating inside the campus of a green environment. Accommodations of visitors are arranged in the university guest house inside the campus upon permission of the Vice-Chancellor.

Food

All the student dormitories, guest houses, and teachers/staff quarters have cooking facilities inside the campus. The food corners are available in the RUET cafeteria and canteen inside the campus. Apart from these, food corners are adjacent to RUET boundaries namely, Kazla, Talaimari traffic, Talaimari Bazar, etc.

Market

Groceries are available inside the campus in the canteen area for daily necessities. One can walk 5 minutes from RUET gate for medicine, tailoring, photocopying, printing, etc. One can go to New Market, Shaheb Bazar 5 km away from RUET to buy a wide variety of necessities.

Hospital

RUET has a medical center inside the campus to provide indoor medical facilities for common health problems. Complicated health problems immediately referred to outside hospitals providing ambulance service of RUET.
